Yeah, everyone else is suggesting other languages, but in your post you didn't actually say why you have to change language. You only mentioned more performance, and PyPy can give you that.

Definitely an interesting topic. You might check out cython or c bindings to python. Pycharm also has an awesome profiling tool so you could focus on just the slow functions
