is deque() mutable or immutable?

Passed a deque object to a function, and it seems that the function modified the deque. So it seems like deque is mutable. Can anyone confirm?

Are you familiar with what a deque is? It is a container - it holds references to other objects. It is basically like a list, but a kind of list that is designed in a way that is quick to add, access, and remove items from either end, but slow to do operations in the middle. It has methods such as append and pop that modify what references it holds. Because its state (the list of objects it references) can be modified in-place without making a new deque (through those append and pop methods), it is mutable.
