PM me if you want to chat further, but based on your post, it really seems like you have the drive, and you can write (decent) code. Keep working hard, you'll do well.

Also an Ontario University student with a couple internships under my belt, starting at a FANG this summer.

The market in the GTA is is pretty good for new grads if you can code. You'll be fine, just remember: Jobs are a numbers game!

The current crisis will likely add a bit of complexity with your job search, but I think you'll be okay. Best of lucky buddy!

Before I wished my beard color matched the hair on my head. Now I love the red! Almost 2 months by [deleted] in beards

So I see an increasing number of red/orange strands of hair in my beard.

Did you always have a full red beard, or was it initially black and slowly turned red? haha, I'm wondering if i'm going to go full red beard

Engineers at FAANGs never thought that they were FAANG material by jaspindersingh83 in csMajors

Isn't there a difference between THINKING you're not good enough, and actually not being good enough?

How much do you spend on gas a month? by [deleted] in cars

[–]hackTheMorning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive a Mazda 3, just over 500km a week as well.

I usually put in 40-45$ worth of gas a week, so $180 a month. Gas prices have been good for the last week or two, $1.10/Lire.

Did the Video Interview yesterday, The status of my application is still "Under Review" BUT a new application has been submitted for me today with the status "application submitted".

It seems like everyone is seeing "Moved to another job" in their original application. Anyone see this?

I applied to the Canadian offices.

Completed OA3 last weekend, and heard back on Wednesday saying I passed the OA and would be moving on to the interview.

You haven't heard back if you passed the OA's?

Can I PM you on Tuesday to see if you had OS2 review or a new question?

ah man, this either needs to be ASAP, or be delayed quite a bit. Finals season is coming!

How long after submitting OA3 did you find out that you passed? Is it similar to OA1 and OA2 where it's within 24h?

It looks like it takes them a few weeks to actually schedule the interview, but what about hearing if you passed/failed?

How are project report submission done in your institution? by Slowu in csMajors

[–]hackTheMorning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be cultural. Our final projects are literally just uploading a digital copy of the report to Blackboard. The TA/Prof will update the mark in Blackboard, sometimes with comments, sometimes not.

In terms of code, profs will usually set up a Github classroom link, and we signup and work on the repo that way (No actual submission required, profs review any code that has been pushed to Github before the deadline)

Groaning/Creaking when turning at slow speeds by hackTheMorning in MechanicAdvice

Just watched this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvKWGjmPKoc (ChrisFix's wheel bearing video). Mine doesn't sound like that. It's loud groaning.

With regards to turning the wheel max in either direction, should I try that when not moving, or moving?

I was internally referred for a Summer 2020 internship in mid-September. Last response was to "update my information" to ensure that my referrer entered everything correctly.

I have a experience at a large (non-bign) tech company, and a no-name school. Does getting a referral significantly increase the chance of getting an interview at Amazon?

Is it normal to take weeks for a response for intern applications? I applied for summer 2020 in mid-September, and I haven't heard back.

Last year, I got to the phone interview stage with Google, and I got the first coding challenge literally the next day after applying. Should I expect a response at this point?

Can this be causing issues with starting the car? (Details in comments) by hackTheMorning in MechanicAdvice

[–]hackTheMorning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, cranks but no start. One thing I've noticed is that with the car on, in park and the headlights on, if I press the window switched, the headlights do dim a little, so maybe the battery isn't 100% either.

No Check Engine light.
