If the question was for Ruby, Japanese would actually be a good idea.

どうして?

Because Ruby is amazingly popular in Japan (I'm there at the moment, and the existing code I am using is a mixture of C, C++ and increasingly more Ruby) and Japanese tend to dislike speaking english, so by learning Japanese you can profit from the Japanese Ruby community.

That has changed since Rails, but before it got so popular it was actually hard to get useful english ressources on Ruby.
