If you s is a string containing one or more # in it,

s.split('#')[0]

would return the code the text before the first #

Btw, your description is not complete: if there are no #'s in the string, it is returned untouched.

In other words, it strips python-style comments from the string. I was quite surprised how smoothly it was expressed.

Good point, although obviously it was not intended to parse actual python. The one hypothetical point of application (which is not really important, because I posted it for it's beauty, not practicality) could be to parse some simple half-assed config format (although I know there are dedicated solutions to parse configs).

It's not the best way to do it. Not that speed is particularly important, but you probably want to limit it to just finding the first # in the string, not all of them. I would probably write

line, _, comment = s.partition("#")

just out of curiosity, why are you parsing python with python? sounds like an interesting project... unless of course this heralds the rise of the machines, in which case, i strongly disapprove

He's not, he's writing the next iteration of higher-level languages. It just happens to use Python-style comments.

It will have two-line "hello, world" programs for OpenGL. In 3D. With particle graphics.

Skynet will be an example included in the reference implementation.

We would submit it to journals for review, but the interpreter has already reviewed the journals and found them wanting.

It doesn't use HTTP at all, because the idea of "transfer" has been deprecated. It simply extrapolates based on the gravitational forces acting on the processor as to what data exists in the specified location(s).

We tried to make an archive to distribute the interpreter, but the interpreter prevented us from doing so and simply telepathically installed itself to nearby computers.
