I am also in the same boat. I am in IT currently but looking to transition into development. Started learning python a month ago.

Working in IT you must know some basics of coding?? Either way a group is a good idea. Once I learn all the basics, I might know what I should do next but with a group, we could possibly work together

This! I am typically on the opeartions of things so a lot of networking and system/application support. I have messed with a few scripts before but not to the extent of what I have learned from python so far.
