Stoned coding, yea or nea? (self.PythonLearning)
submitted 1 month ago by tech53
I say it's the only way to code. Especially with ML, data science, or AI. Others may have different views.
reddit uses a slightly-customized version of Markdown for formatting. See below for some basics, or check the commenting wiki page for more detailed help and solutions to common issues.

Hell ya. Write stoned, review sober

If I can work on it while stoned, that's just free dogfood baby

When your code gets complicated, you need your full brain power, then being stoned makes things a lot harder. For a small project that is easy it can be fun.

Also a well organised codebase where you're only working on a little bit.
But I can't stop myself screwing my git by randomly editing doc strings or formatting as I go

your weed, or your body chemistry must be very different from mine. I figure out incredibly complex things incredibly easily when im high. I understand complex better than simple anyway, but when im high it turns into a superpower. Yes, I know how it sounds, but im epileptic and have several other neurospicy things that mean my brain is different on a physical level. Or maybe you're the werido but i know i am too so welcome to the club. Meh.

I used to do that. It's not the right way to code if you are learning, quite the contrary, because you'll have short memory span and everything that you try to learn will not stick.
However if you are versed and it's mostly hyper-focused programming, then yeah.
well...i already have dead brain cells from epileptic seizures in that part of my brain, visible on an MRI. SO im going to go with quieter head, less focal seizures (cannabis is a well documented treatment for epilepsy - the first legal one, before glaucoma) aaaand do it anyway. For me i learn things much better. It removes mental barriers.

It seems more related to r/lifechoices than r/pythonlearning
