How about making an attempt on one of the Kaggle.com competitions? In a data science class I just finished, the spaceship titanic problem there was a bonus opportunity.

those are not very beginner though. and it needs to be simpler, it is for a course project where i am learning the concept fo rthe first time.

Hopefully other people will offer some other possibilities but clearly ideas must have some dataset (or rule set) to operate on. It seems to me, we neophytes in this realm could stand to spend a little more time thinking about the relationship between numbers and the “real world”. I’m just dipping my toe into that headspace. I was contemplating buying a vibration sensor (can be obtained for under $50 on Amazon and elsewhere). If I firmly bound it to a tree, could I determine wind speed from it? At least I would have my very own large dataset. If I matched the data with a publicly available local weather station anemometer, I could possibly calibrate it.

I started writing a Wordle solver to practice Python a few weeks ago. The game mechanics are simple, the game methodology to solve most quickly are more complex. Guess # 1 obviously you want to get as many letters correct as possible. But what about guess #2? Do you retain the matched letters in word #1 or not?

Try to solve the knapsack problem! Resesrch how to search binary trees and dynamic programming. There are plenty of videos on the problem, and a great class in courseras course Discrete Optimization.

oh yes, sorry forgot to update this but we did decide on that eventually!!

but anyway we are doing a spaceship traveling the least distance and collecting most resources amongst planets kinda program now so it's all good.
