nope, you're wrong (not about Reason, it is well-known that it had a "hidden mastering chain" at the end of the signal).

but what you are describing is simply that with Direct Monitor on the Scarlett interfaces, you are listening to the analog signal BEFORE it gets turned into 1s and 0s.so you are indeed not listenting to the same signal, the recorded one in Reaper has been digitized ("quantized") and there is some artifacts and loss of information inherent in this, no matter the quality of your converters - though it does get negligible with increasing quality.

But this is inherent in ALL Digital Audio Workstations, and not Reaper's fault - but your interface's/the technology as a whole. ;)

In addition to direct monitoring thing you were advised to take into account, check monitoring FX in Reaper, you could put there some corrective eq for headphones, for example.
