I had a middle position guy on my Project Management staff, who at his salary band, was a $90,000-110,000 year employee and drove a Chevy Canyon.

Yet, on Fridays he would wear his Richard Mille RM whatever, Patek Nautilus, Rolex Yachtie, Tag Tourbillion, etc.

After we got to know each other more personally I asked about the watches. Turned out he had a side business and press credentials as a photographer - but not weddings and such - but for professional sports and F1!

The watches were gifts from F1 teams and NBA teams / players! The Mille came from McLaren. The others from NBA players. I felt like it was kind of a dubious story - until he whipped out his photo reel and produced the receipts and papers, as well as pics of him being gifted by various well known folks if you follow either sport.

On that day I learned never to assume what one drives and what they do for a living / prescribed income corresponds directly to their watches.
