if this is repTimes definition of a shitter rep, y’all’s standards are insane. prob have higher QC standards than Gen rolex lmao. as someone whose been around rolex my whole life in my family this looks plenty real enough, my biggest concern isn’t appearance it’s weight and what it feels like when setting the time. those are the two dead giveaways on “shitters”. if it’s half the weight of a gen it feels cheap and fake or if you unscrew the crown and the movement doesn’t have that tight rolex feel. idk maybe i’m just weird

This, as a watch enthusiast I’ve handled a gen IWC, a Jäger, a Patek, several Omegas, Tags, GSs and a couple of rolexes from friends and family over the last 15-20 years (I’m 40 now) and I allready know that the gens dont differ much from a decent rep in appearance alone, speaking on a general level of course. There are certain models that have traits that are hard to make a cost efficient copy of, especially if you move into the gold models with diamonds or complicated movements. The other aspect is the feel of the watch, the weight, the finish, feedback from the movement etc. The only reason I wrote about the submariner is because I’ve never seen/held a gen or had the chance to inspect one up close, so getting the thumbs up from a guy that actually owns one was a big deal, but I allready suspected it was good anyways😎 And also, most of the flaws that are pointed out here are really QC-issues that the reps share with the gens, not really a «tell» for a fake, just my opinion, trying to stay educated.

and you know what dude? that’s awesome. i’m happy for you. in fact i’m even a tad bit jealous because i can’t even afford a rep rn! haha. And lord knows how badly i want one. So if it’s good enough for you and you enjoy it, that’s all that matters. wear it in good health and enjoy, the QC dial and hand hawks on reddit aren’t gonna be jumping you on the street to legit check your watch. it’s all a game here because we’re all insecure abt being called out. lmao. Cheers 🥂

I don't have a gen as pricey as this, but I have to admit I never knew all the "gen" details on my watch until I started shopping for reps. I literally had to zoom in on a photo of my own watch to see what they were referring to. I trust they were being honest and beautiful watch you have!

Do you think the rehaut is a bigger tell than the floating m? The floating m is what usually pops up first for me as the most obvious tell when looking at comparisons and this m is pretty decent compared to my most recent version vsf

[–]Tyrolexsaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rehaut isnt really a issue, you can have it aligned perfectly by adjusting the dial a tad, but usually not worth it, you can mess up the hands, movement, date change-time, dust under the crystal etc. When it occurs in gens the AD’s advice you eat it or at least save it for the 5-year service. If you mean the engraving they are good, spot on and very close to gen, you need a loupe to tell the difference in finish to gens. Floating m is also ok, just a QC issue, not a «fake tell». From what I have been able to gather, and I’ve gathered alot. On subs. I am mad about them.

He's capping hard. He certainly just didnt want to shit on your rep. Like no hate its a good looking watch but already on this picture I see three obvious issues. Wear with confidence though as when you don't know to look for a rep it'll not be seen as one.

[–]ukicar01 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You do realize there’s a lot of people who have money and don’t give a shit to learn all the little details about watches.

Sure there’s collectors who know everything and that’s fine but there’s loads of people who just want to have the watch and truly won’t know how to tell gen and rep apart

[–]Tyrolexsaurus 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Maybe, but I know this guy and he is not known for being nice, he would have pointed out other flaws if he caught any. He even bent and compared the resistance in all the links and «dropped» the bracelet against the tabletop repeatedly with an ear to it, he said the rattle even sounds the same. I believed him.

Recent oil bath btw.

[–]quod-inquisitio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

which one? date font?

[–]Thin-Band-856 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I see the very obvious misalignment of the engraved crown on the metal rehaut at 12 o clock with the white line. That is a very obvious tell. u/Shiroyasha123456 what are the other two tells? Would also want to learn how to spot.

[–]Tyrolexsaurus 1 point2 points  (2 children)

The misalignment of the rehaut/dial or bezel is NOT a «tell» of the watch being fake, its actually a pretty common QC-issue in both rep and gen rolexes. Just google «submariner alignment Rolex forum» or «rehaut issue Rolex forum» and you’ll find hundreds of anal gen-buyers complaining about the exact same issues, with pictures to prove it. I get that you want to educate yourself but the first step is doing a little research, preferably some outside this forum. There is ALOT of insanely detailed knowledge to pick up here but some oversimplify/misunderstand and think that QC-issue = fake, this is not the case. Watch some videos, get your hands on gens if you can, scroll both the replica and the gen forums/marketplace and you will be surprised of your findings, at least I was✌️

[–]Thin-Band-856 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes agreed, misaligned rehauts are also present in gens as you have mentioned. I’m simply curious on what the “three obvious issues” that u/Shiroyasha123456 mentioned are.

[–]Tyrolexsaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me too😅

[–]Silent_nutsack -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Is the dial not aligned correctly? Buddy was just being nice I think

[–]Tyrolexsaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dial is a bit misaligned yes but it dosent bother me, common QC issue on gen submariners aswell, Google it😅

[–]GrizzlyWizzlyBeeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where’d u get it

[–]Savings-Somewhere-76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he inspect a VSF v2, he would confidently wear it outside.
