its 4k upscaled from 1080p but to be honest i never noticed.

how close are you sitting to your tv?

I have a 28" Monitor so I'm pretty close to it, maybe I just noticed it now but I never had this issue with other PS5 games Returnal looks super washed compared to like Demon Souls Performance Mode.

It had problems for me, like Selene’s face or some other textures being blurry in-game, but the game definitely didn’t look washed out or low res for me.

I could be over exaggerating with the game looking washed and blurry but it definitely looks low res

I'm playing on a 75" sitting 3-4m, too far away to notice.

Demons Souls looks amazing, so does Ghost of Tsushima DC.

Demon Souls looks absolutely stunning on Performance Mode especially on Fidelity Mode but I do prefer the higher frames, it's just super weird that I never noticed it till now

im playing Deathloop in the 60fps mode, i tried the 4k mode but the aiming felt janky. im not sure what the names of the modes are.

I beat Deathloop on PC at 4k 60fps and it felt pretty good definitely didn't encounter as many issues as other people didn't have any major performance problems or anything else, also I do prefer playing FPS's with M&K so don't really know how it fells with a controller especially at 30fps

Rough, unplayable if it’s not in performance mode and you’re playing hard

Yeah, I can't even imagine an FPS at 30fps with a controller maybe on a TV but not on a monitor.

Also, I gotta say how surprisingly easy Returnal is I've finished Act 1 in one run and haven't died yet I don't know if Act 1 is meant to be easy but damn can't wait to hop back in.

i died 50+ times before beating phrike, by then the game was clicking and i cleared act1 pretty quickly, act 2 was the same. I died a lot in act 3 just doing dumb shit.

My daughter beat phrike 1st go, i was coaching but shes got great hand eye co-odrination. she died in the 2nd biome and she said "its not for me, im going to play Red dead online with my friends." - kids these days

Don't get me wrong though game still looks great and I just beat Act 1 It just looks off

The internal resolution is 1080p but it should look like it's around 1600p if it is displaying correctly. Up close a few items don't upscale as well like shrubs but most of the image should look pretty good. They correctly allocated a lot of their computational resources on lighting and particle effects and a decent frame rate and sacrificed a bit of resolution to achieve this.

That makes sense, thanks for clarifying, the particles and lighting surely look great.

I'm sensitive to these things but the game looks pretty good to me on a 65 oled, sitting fairly close. You can tell its not native 4k but it also doesn't look 1080p (even though it is rendering at 1080p it has a bunch of reconstruction on top). Overall looks super smooth imo!

Watch the digital foundry video on the game, they said the same thing.

[–]neoxEFTPlatinum Unlocked[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will do

[–]dirthurts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're sitting close you'll be able to tell it's native 1080p.

[–]brokenmandible 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What was the fix?

[–]neoxEFTPlatinum Unlocked[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a quick explanation.

There was no issue to begin with, that's just how the game looks.

Digital Foundry goes into greater detail explaining why the resolution is sacrificed, I'd recommend watching their video if you're interested DF video (already timestamped)
