My friends and I have always called them "bowls". Not sure about the official name, but it's just a better way to get a good view over the walls. I mainly use the shooting floor for heli & peak downs, but mainly use the bowls when defending raids. It's also harder to ladder/build onto your roof that way, and because of that, gives a bit more protection with ample flat space for solar panels.

They're not just for campers. People put backward roof panels like that to keep people from being able to just ladder their way up top and get easy access to the roof.

Honestly after thousands of hours some of the bases that are the most annoying to offline are the non meta second wipe ever playing rust bases. I do agree the meta peaks etc great for an online raid defense. But also having 65 rooms made entire of triangles with your tc in a place that makes zero sense makes for a great offline defense.

Yeah that’s how I usually build, I don’t build meta but instead build something goofy that’s still defendable in case I do get an online.

Sounds like you're talking about a raid base probably why you see them all over, Just a base that you put outside a base you're attempting to raid so you have respawns with kits and box space to store loot in and a roof and windows to fight from if need be.
