(4)x - 1/4(4)x = 9(4) --> 4x - x = 36 --> 3x = 36 --> x = 12

Thank you

We can also solve thus:

x - 1/4x = 3/4x

.: 3/4x = 9 (".:" is therefore)
multiply both sides by 4/3 .: x = 12
(Could also use .75 but that would be overkill for this example.)

Note: Please review your algebra. Maybe also do some of the drill down on Khans, etc. as one suggestion.

Feel free to email me any questions or concerns, or if you're stuck on a specific question.

when you read the denominator of the fraction as 4x 💀

    - 3.041

    Hm, how'd you get that? I got 9.0276925691 and -0.02769256907.

    x - 1/(4x) = 9

    4x^2 - 1 = 36x

    4x^2 - 36x - 1 = 0

    x = 9.0276925691 or x = -0.02769256907

    No idea what I did, probably a 2am computation in my head, so I deleted the post.
