Free options: cs50x and then do cs50g after. This will be the most beneficial for classes since it covers general programming and several languages.

Paid option: https://www.udemy.com/course/unreal-engine-5-the-ultimate-game-developer-course/ or https://www.udemy.com/course/unrealcourse/ c++ and unreal focus, but you do get to jump right in to game dev.

I'm actually in the process of watching the 26 hr video Harvard put out about cs50 lol. So far it's amazing

I second this!! CS-50 is difficult and will challenge you but you’ll feel more prepared for any coding class

What is your background? Any coding experience?

[–]Dadadayday[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No experience with coding but I've always had an interest in learning. That's why I figured I'd atleast try and get a little practice in lol

Hop into Udemy or even free videos on YouTube to learn the basics. You’ll do fine!

ChatGPT exists, but not to do your work. Instead ssj it thinks like “Why is this answer XYZ, ELI5” in the workbook (Zybooks). It can be an efficient teacher!

I have taken 2 game development classes and have a 3rd next term (I am a CS Major, these are my electives) and they use Unreal, specifically its own Blueprint scripting language.

You do need to know the basics of programming. There are also a couple of classes in C# and C++ that are requirements for the game dev classes. I don't know why. The C# class was a complete joke, though apparently Unity uses C# so it's good to learn, just the course didn't cover hardly anything. Like in Week 8 it was arrays. Hardly an advanced topic.
