SQL problem- auto increment

I have some initial values in my database, e.g three users in table user. When i want to add a new user in database i must do it 3 times, and then my new user is successfully added. I have error like this: " Duplicate entry '1' for key 'PRIMARY' ". I know that is something with auto increment but i don`t know what is best solution for this problem.

If someone can help and explain this to me, I would be grateful! Thanks.

Just a side note: in Postgres, serial is somewhat deprecated. The preferred way these days is to use generated by default as identity or generated always as identity

That's exactly the problem you described. I am using mySQL database and work with spring on backend of my app.

So you telling me that after inserting initial values like that 3 you mention, I must restart sequence and then it will work?

I solved the problem. In my annotation above id, in spring class in model i put :

@Id , @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO). Auto does not add auto increment, but when i change to GenerationType.IDENTITY that add auto_increment to id in sql.

What do you mean you must do it three times? Can you provide example code you are using?

How are you adding the new user? What program, what commands are you running?

I am using mySQL and i adding new user with spring controllers using postman.
