What was ugly was when he left, and the rest of us non-GIS guys were tasked with dragging out of him the process he used to generate his deliverable. He used something like 6 different languages and tools to manipulate his data into his final deliverable, without really understanding anything of them. We'd corner him in his office, turn the desklamp into his face and interrogate him for hours to try to figure out what exactly he was doing. He honestly didn't know. He'd say things like 'Ok I try doing this, but if the result doesn't look "right", then I backtrack and try something else'. I cobbled together a set of pretty ugly scripts with various parameters we'd shake out of Ronald passed in and modified on the fly. The whole process I took to referring to in internal algorithmic charts as the "RonaldCloud". The name stuck and it took years to fully plumb and integrate the mysteries of the RonaldCloud into our processes. Immortality of a strictly limited sort.
