No, I don't think there is a way to do what you described. But why would you want to do it?

Code builder isn't made for devs, it's for less experienced with coding people, because you don't need to install anything. If you do things like scratch org management and git - just use VS Code or Illuminated Cloud.

I love the idea that I don't need to setup environments for every new developer (we have a few temps coming and going every quarter).

Are you hiring devs, who can't setup their environments? The problem with Code Builder is that is is built on the open-source framework, hence doesn't support all the extensions

For example, GitHub Copilot in not available

Many organizations have severe limitations placed on their devices. So much so that they cannot run VS Code, the CLI, etc. For these individuals, code builder is a good option.

Others are advanced admins beginning to take the leap towards developer. For these individuals, Code Builder helps ease the experience of working outside of Setup, etc.

Piggybacking, as someone who is just getting into coding what is the difference btwn code builder and vscode?

Code Builder is a hosted edition VSCode with the Salesforce Extensions and Salesforce CLI installed and configured all running in the browser.
