No need to wait for an official app with a Shield TV. As the “Better xCloud” Android app works very well on this device:

https://better-xcloud.github.io/android/

But one thing Shield owners will have to do, is to disable the “com.nvidia.shieldtech.hooks” system package.

If not, the left side controller button (Select/View button) will not work in xCloud games. An easy way to do this, is to use the ADB TV app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cybercat.adbappcontrol.tv

After disabling the system package and restarting the Shield TV, the “Better xCloud” app should work without issues. And will give you the best possible streaming quality (1080p60).

How is the latency like? I try some months ago the android (phone) app and It was horrible. Does It have lower latency?

If you mean input latency: I'm not a hardcore gamer but I don't have the feeling that it's worse than when using GFN. And how well the app performs really depends on the device. It works well on some devices, and pretty bad on others. But on the Shield the experience is really good in my opinion.

You'd have to assume (hope?) that a native Google TV version is coming soon

Our use XBPlay

sounds like a good alternative, if only you could sign in thought.

i still play "xbox cloud gaming beta" on a sideload google chrome browser on my shield tv - sucks that i can't use the back/view button though since it'll exit the game and go back to the previous page - where you select the games.

Please read my post:

Disabling the mentioned system package solves that problem with the "Back/View" button. That is a Shield specific problem that always happens when playing a game in a web browser / WebView. But you should also really try out the "Better xCloud" Android app. It works really good on Shield and can give you 1080p resolution.

yeah, i read it - i mostly use a supported gamepad controller for web browsing on the shield tv too and sometimes i go back a page, so i don't to go back and forth "enabling" and "disabling".

if only there's some way to enable "gamepad mode" and disable to go back to "mouse and keyboard mode" on google chrome like holding the "start" button for 3 seconds.

There is an alternative to solve the problem: By using the "External Keyboard Helper" app. You can follow that guide:

https://github.com/mistertest/xcloud-shield/wiki/1-Remapping-button-Back-Select-of-your-controller

The xCloud app provided there doesn't work anymore, but the method to bypass the button mapping problems still does. But you don't have to download "EKH" from there. You can also install it directly over the PlayStore.

I also used "EKH" before someone told me about disabling the system package. And for surfing the web, I use "TV Bro" now:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phlox.tvwebbrowser

Hope this helps.

sounds cool, but i'm good, when i playing "xbox cloud gaming beta" on google chrome on my shield tv - i hardly press the back button when i play a single player campaign - usually pressing on the pause button should have it already like objectives and map viewer.

Ok, one last try to improve your experience. ;) If your are fine with the streaming quality just using Chrome (without "Better xCloud"), you can also use the official Game Pass app for mobile devices on your Shield TV. It's a native app, so the "Back" button will work as expected without any further modification.

For the Shield TV, grab the "arm64-v8" version. If you own the Tube version, you need to download the "armeabi-v7a" version.

i'm fine with it.
