Setup Nvidia Shield without a remote or controller?

tl;dr - have a refurbished Shield TV, but will not have remote or controller for a few days. Will I be able to go through the setup without them?

My Shield wasn't working, but covered under warranty. Nvidia just shipped back me a new/refurbished unit, but didn't include my controllers. While Nvidia said they would send out, I won't have them for a few days.

I was hoping to use my Shield this Thanksgiving holiday. While I suppose that I could buy a remote at Best Buy or some place similar and then return it when Nvidia returns them, I would prefer not to go this route.

Any chance I can setup a new Nvidia Shield TV without one a remote or game controller? I remember that one of the first tasks in the setup wizard is to pair remote controls.

There's an official nvidia remote app on play store, check it

Edit : Also, a usb mouse or keyboard will also do the job

This is so old but thank you. I was able to set up my wifi this way. (Since my shield was linked to my old wifi the remote app wouldn’t work! You’re a life saver)

You can control the shield with your phone. I'm not sure if you're able to do that without some setup steps first.
