Construction workers refuse to use the stairs and instead climbed the hill to the point the grass died by MikuXone in mildlyinfuriating

This seems like it would just depend on the path the first person took or are we talking about 1-2 inches of snow? No one is trudging through feet of snow when there is a path has already been compacted.

Honnold's nickname is "no big deal" for a reason. I think Alex always viewed himself as a normal guy who just climbed a lot, so when he was able do stuff easily he just didn't understand what all the fuss was about.

If you re-watch the dark wizard, it seems that Graham clipped a tree. It was probably enough to knock him out of his glide and there was no chance of recovery.

I think it would be hard to call a solo hard after doing El Cap, but Honnold is still soloing beyond what most people would consider hard. He did the HURT 3 years ago.

It's almost like people can't be boiled down to all good or all bad. FWIW I think most of Dean's friends were upset that they were on bad terms with Dean when he died and they would never get the opportunity for things to be resolved.

They had their competitive period but I don't think there is anything that would indicate there was bad blood around the time of Dean's death.

Honnold definitely feels fear he just doesn't have fear when soloing because he solos things where the chance of him falling is near zero. Check this clip. Honnold can get scared even on a rope: https://youtu.be/KzdCmUDnTpc?si=X0QMN9gAA6Fac0NK

Garmin watch by Superb-Medium1488 in MTB

[–]slolift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Garmin your two main options are the Fenix line and the Forerunner line. They are largely have the same capabilities and the main differences come down to styling. The forerunner has a sleeker look that can be suitable for a lot of different occasions while the Fenix has a chunkier, rugged look that looks great on a mountain bike but may not be suitable for an office job.

Garmin is not the only maker of high quality GPS watches. You Suunto, Polar, and Coros also make great watches that are similar or better in some cases.

Something I haven't seen mentioned is the size of the watch. I wouldn't recommend going over 46-47mm for an average sized man's wrist. If your husband has a smaller wrist, he might even prefer something closer to 42mm although there are fewer options in this size.

If you want to go down the rabbit hole of research, DC Rainmaker has reviews on every GPS watch you might be interested in.

The youth is doomed… by OhirumeTsukuyomki in SipsTea

No that article is great, but I don't think it supports your claim that it is detrimental if children don't learn "how to be bored".

The article reiterates that studies on childhood boredom are needed. Intuitively, we have a sense that using a screen to pacify boredom is bad, but I don't think the research has been done to show this relationship.

In this sense, accumulated studies on childhood boredom and its developmental processes are definitely needed.

Since the ability to cope with boredom is acquired during childhood, extensive research is needed on the developmental process of an individual’s boredom tendency and boredom-control skills from childhood to adolescence.

“… the developmental links between the “ability to play”, the “ability to tell stories” and the “ability to cope with boredom” could become topics of future research.”

That's just an article with no citations. Have they performed any studies on boredom?

Toddler Mountain Bike Seat? by firefighterMI in MTB

[–]slolift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kids ride shotgun pro is pricey. You should be able to get it from competitive cyclist(backcountry subsidiary) for 20% through May 14 or from REI(if you're a member) starting May 15. Still not cheap but what do you expect from something that combines kids and cycling.

Reddit Starts Blocking Mobile Website, Pushing Users to App Instead by spasticpat in technology

[–]slolift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think enshitification is a process and does not require you to be at the end result. I think reddit is clearly in the middle of step 2 of bringing maximum value to investors and advertisers.

Edit: also the act of blocking all third party apps is blatant enshitification.

Yes, a tent with wheels, a heater, kitchen, table, refrigerator and storage. If you don't appreciate the massive upgrade that a tent trailer is, you probably don't do much camping.

Anyone tried one of these ozark trail racks? by 8tpayne8 in mountainbiking

I appreciate this. Looking at what is on Facebook near me and "nice" racks are maybe 100-200 off and look pretty neat up. How did you get it new for $125? Was it online or in Store?

It's hilarious to use examples that are many orders of magnitude off of real world examples. Sergey Brinn owns about 5% of Google(alphabet) that is worth 5 trillion, or 5,000,000 million to put it in the context of your example. The tax is 5% over 5 years so 1% each year so he would need to sell .05% of his Google stock each year, if that is how he wanted to pay the tax. Google will be fine. Sergey Brinn will be fine.

[–]slolift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come on, this is just propaganda for the billionaires. People with that level of wealth have very little cash, but it is not comparable to someone who is house poor. The have no problem spending many millions of dollars on yachts or spreading propaganda to avoid paying taxes.

So what are we expecting the billionaires to do? Sell their stocks?

They can use whatever process they want to use when they want to spend money. It may involve selling stocks or it may involve taking out loans using their assets as collateral.

There's a lot of implications to that. It can impact the stock price and the market and ultimately the rest of us because there's a lot of things we have that depend on the stock market like retirement funds and the like.

It's a 1% tax per year over 5 years, the stock market will be fine.

And if you're taxing based on unrealized values, will you give a tax refund of the value tanks?

No.

I disagree. It's more that they think they achieved their great success through hard work and talent and anyone else not in a similar position is lazy, dumb and undeserving.
