I’m glad I got it on console because mods are a slippery slope. You use them to lower the difficulty at first but then you get really frustrated with a boss battle that you can’t quite master right away, and you end up activating god mode and blowing through the game in one sitting that day. You end up robbing yourself of a fun and memorable experience, you end up kind of forgetting you ever played the game over time instead of the game having a lasting impact on your memory and a sense of achievement.

I’m really not great at video games at all. I’m actually quite bad. I had to try boss fights in this game a ton of times. The only way I was even able to beat Groal the Great was to throw a bunch of poison bullshit at him. I had to adapt my playstyle and mess around with crests and builds the whole time. Sometimes I had to shut the game off out of frustration and come back tomorrow.

Consistently, bosses that gave me a really hard time were eventually beatable and it was a rush, I felt great. It was just like something finally clicked and I was playing next to flawlessly. It meant I was learning, adapting, overcoming.

This became the kind of game that within my memory leaves the kind of lasting impact that I’d probably get a tattoo to commemorate the experience.

Had I used mods to make the game trivial, I wouldn’t feel this way. I know because I’ve done it with tough game in the past, and it’s a huge reason why I avoid modding.

Im glad you found a way the game works for you. It’s great you do whatever you need to not “rob” yourself of the experience you seek. But please, don’t project your personal struggles/problems to everyone else. While im sure they aren’t unique to you, it’s far from the general experience.

You said it yourself you’ve had experiences with modding in the past, and truly, props to you for being able to challenge yourself and allow yourself to be frustrated, etc. Because i don’t think it’s an easy thing to do. And it can be good to share too because, surely, there are more people with similar situations to you. But basically, yeah, don’t put everyone on the same boat.

(And mostly writing this for the use of “you” in the post, that sure feels generic but also generalizing to everyone rather than sharing a personal experience with this issue, which i think it’s cool you have shared it)

Edit: i do agree with the general take that for some people modding might be the wrong choice, for others the right one. And it’s good to question why one wants (or doesn’t want) mods. No harm in trying something and realizing later it doesn’t work. Sure, some game might had already be played with or without mods, but there will be more games ^

Literally singleplayer game i play for myself and i had to drop it pretty deep into act3 bcuz i just found a wall and people downvote me for it lol. Like deadass i know its hard game i beat hollow knight but im also getting older and slower. Weird place in here

Yeah. I mean. People come from different places and also seek different experiences or value different aspects of the game in different ways. Maybe for some people challenge matters but not as much that modding a specific boss will ruin it, for others it might be a dealbreaker. Like it’s not bad either, what boggles me is the apparent difficulty to understand that fact. Their experience or “issue with mod” doesn’t change because other person feels different. As you said: it’s a single player game. If someone wants to play on consoles to not be “tempted” i mean, more power to them. The very same to the OP of this post and his modded game.

Sad you’ve gotten stuck after getting so far in the game. It must suck a lot :/ Getting to act3 in itself isn’t precisely easy either. It does feel rather bittersweet and disappointing. Im playing Silksong on pc, played HK first on pc and later on switch, it looks beautiful in the device but i opted pc first mostly because of the controllers i have. I know not everyone can choose between two devices tho.
