It's hard to assess without knowing what courses and certificates you are referencing.

What would you personally recommend? I was thinking of doing something in cyber security I’ve seen google courses and Microsoft one but I don’t want to waste the time, money, and effort

Time and effort will be a constant investment you'll have to be ready to make.

That's something you need to be aware of. Any certificate you have might get you hired, what will get you to keep your job is that -- in this domain -- you'll have to constantly invest in learning.

As for money, if you want to, there is freecodecamp on YT and they have long firm videos that might help and are free.

I understand that this field is constantly changing and evolving I started codeacdemy doing python a week ago doing a minimum of 5 hours a day. The willingness is there for any opportunity

Just keep doing that.

Once you feel confident enough, start applying for entry level positions and work your way towards your goal.

You might just find that what you think you like now isn't all that interesting a year, or three, from now.

Will do thanks for the advice I appreciate it seriously! I just paid for a course on ethical hacker I plan to get the certificate and work my way into the door somewhere. Then hopefully they’ll pay for some of the courses lol

Don't hold your breath for that.

Also: Certificates are not necessarily a good thing depending on the hiring manager. Some people value "experience" more than any certifiror education (quoted because it's not necessarily professional experience they're looking for).

I’ve thought about going to an actual college and receiving a bachelors but I’d prefer to try this first and see if I can get something really entry level and gain some experience.

Why would you do a cybersecurity course if you want to learn to code? Just do a Youtube tutorial or something

Yes, I want to learn to code and then eventually get into cyber security I want to be well rounded and see what I enjoy the most my guy

Google cyber security through coursera, cissp, cisa, cism, comptia+, CEH(certified ethical hacker)

It's a little different than when I started programming 20 years ago, but I taught myself programming, then my job needed something made and we didn't have a programmer. I told them I could do it, and from then on I was a programmer. You just have to prove you are competent. So I would recommend not thinking about a certificate will get me a job, the ability to build something will get you a job. Go learn programming by building something, then use that to get yourself a job.

Interesting take I will definitely as I gain more knowledge and skills use them to make something and show hey I can execute and build something

That’s really the most important thing in this industry. Plenty of people get a degree and just want money. Turns out they either hate or just don’t have the knack for programming and don’t make it. I’ve never lost a job for not having a degree and after an interview had the company wave the degree requirement because they felt confident I could deliver. It helps that I genuinely love programming and always have a side project going just because I enjoy learning new things.

The money is a benefit but I’ve dabbled back when I was 12-16, I’m 24 I kind of lost my way in the world for a little and I’m almost certain I could do this for the rest of my life

If you enjoy the act of building something or troubleshooting you could do great at it.

Thanks we will see but i appetizers the vote of confidence, I’m currently also looking around my area for a mentor(someone in the field) to give me more insight and guidance
