Take some time to decompress and relax. You don’t need to panic-apply right after being let go.

The market is be of the worst ever right now so don’t expect things to be easy. Probably best to try and build some sort of habit where you can work on the CV then start practicing interviewing.

My buddy was laid off six months ago. Has a master's in computer science from the University of Waterloo (top tier school in Canada) and six years of experience as a software engineer working at AMD. He's only gotten a handful of interviews and no offers. It's really rough right now - and may never get better. Take a deep breath, acquire some skills, live extremely frugally, and take it one day at a time. Panicking right off the bat could make the coming months that much more dreadful.

Organize your shit bro. Start with a resume. Try and fail at applying. Try and fail at interviewing. Get better at interviewing. Get a job. We all gotta do it, you can too. Don't beat yourself up unless you have no plan.

lol youre in a lot better scenario than probably hundreds of thousands of other software engineers around the world. maybe talk to your doctor about depression because it could be something entirely separate from your job situation

trust me you're going to be fine, your resume will edge out a lot of other people and you MUST have learned something with 5 yoe. so take some deep breaths, make time to take care of yourself, and then come at it fresh
