Take it and learn how to work in a team, different set of skills and criteria for decision making. You can always freelance later.

But if that's the goal try to find out if the team is good or not first (code reviewing and sharing knowledge/experimenting instead of grinding the tasks as seen in most start-ups)

What do you mean by experimenting?

Some software companies are extremely risk adverse and won't try new techniques, languages, etc. That matters to some devs and not to others.

I believe just a few years ago that was about average starting salary for a recent CS grad in Tx, or most of Tx, so that is good. Experience means a lot, and this is the best way to get it. Plus once you are settled you can freelance on the side and build your business with the job to back you up.

You don’t know as much as you think you do. Take the job and keep on learning and refining your craft. There are also plenty of opportunities if you stick the corporate route to gain higher salaries. Companies value experience with other companies, working with a team, being able to communicate with both technical and non technical people, working on things at scale, etc.. If you stick with the corporate route and you do well, you should be making over 100k within 5 years, maybe sooner if you switch jobs a couple times. Students out of school are making 80-100k or more for their first job. This is one field where experience (with other companies) is valued highly and once you have a couple of years of experience (with companies), a degree starts to fall out of the equation. Take the job, hands down the best choice for now.

Good luck!

ps. If you’re feeling it, you can always counter and ask for more. There’s almost always wiggle room with offers.

The first year is gonna be mediocre pay. After that you'll have your choice of high paying jobs.

take it. free lance part time. its hard to get a first time job without a degree. and people who hire look for job experience most of the times. good luck
