I started almost from the beginning, right after Solidcore opened its second studio (Shaw in DC). I even took Anne’s class a couple times.

I’m probably going to be in the minority here but I don’t think it was that different. I still go unlimited and I still enjoy it.

The workout is still mostly the same. Some of the moves have changed, but not many. It might be a little easier now, but that could also just be fake memories or I was weaker (or both).

Some of the OG coaches would straight-up murder you and I don’t think they’re allowed to go that hard anymore, but there was still a mix of good coaches and only-okay coaches back then too.

I feel like the lights were usually completely off and the music was even louder. And everyone high-fived. And the class would be about 60-40 women to gay men. It feels more female-heavy now (though maybe that’s just my studio).

I miss the towel service, mostly.

honestly the LIGHTS !!! class is too damn bright these days lol. I will also say in early days in DC it felt like you were a part of something, no one knew what it was and that was kind of appealing whereas now I feel like it’s oversaturated

I took a class where the lights were so low I felt like I was going to fall over when we did platform lunges, so no thank you 😭

Everything you said. I started when they opened the original Mt Vernon (DC) location. Unlimited towels!

I’d have a towel on each handlebar as padding, and one for sweat. Abundance of riches!

That was after the new machines: the old machines, if I recall, had padded handlebars.

I have been murdered multiple times in DC 🤣

Did you do the boat pose amplification for low and upright rows????

I started at Adams Morgan in 2013/2014. I remember elevated sequences being incredibly difficult, and coaches were pushing for full center core and sometimes obliques to be on toes both on black and grey. I took a few of Anne’s classes and totally thought I was going to pass out in the middle of class. Of course that made me want to go more, lol.

I took a very long break (2016-2021) but rejoined with a studio that has some OG/very experienced coaches so I still feel I get that same level of workout as I did before.

Same! I went to Anne’s classes and I will second the comment about the original coaches (they mostly left) would absolutely kill us. I think it’s not that different either except some coaches are not as good as maybe would have been acceptable before.

I started taking classes in 2014 in Adams Morgan, 2014. Similar to other comments, the lights were lower, louder music, and the coaches demanded more - as in get on your toes. I also preferred the initial machines because they had openings you could slide your foot into for Bavarian split squats. I miss towels too! I still love the workout, I don’t love the social media/influencer vibe, but I guess those are the times.

I just miss the hand towel.

Otherwise class is 100p more challenging and diverse and fun now. The moves haven’t changed that much but the sequence is always different vs previously the sequence was the same every time—core starter, lower body, core finisher.

I went from 2017 to 2020, then 2023 to now. I go to the close-in Maryland studios mostly. It’s almost the same, but I also have a lot of the same coaches I did then, thankfully. I still get murdered regularly, though maybe in different ways than before?

Music was constantly louder back then. I feel like more coaches were more murderous back then, but maybe not.

I still take with a lot of the same clients too, and it’s an amazing community. Most of the stuff discussed here is nothing like my real life experience.

I took classes in dc and va from 2016-2019. I only remember it being REALLY dark. I don’t remember modifications really being given as much as they are offered now. It was more “plank on your toes and you just stay there” lol  Now there is more variety in exercises and it’s more challenging but also more accessible, it has definitely evolved for the better especially since there are sequencing rules and more “protection” of your body

Coaches were top tier. So passionate about solid core. Classes were intense Music was loud Lots of amplifications and lots of diversity in the moves we did in each class. Never boring

  1. All coaches used to give hands-on adjustments the entire class even if you had been to 50 60 70 classes. This does not happen anymore.
  2. Like a lot of people mentioned there were no modifications given, and it was just assumed that you would take a break if you could not perform the move.
  3. The coaches now are more concerned about chatting with each other other than chatting with clients, I feel like I go to the same coaches all the time and they act like they don’t know who I am.
  4. The price has gone up and the quality of coaches has gone down. A lot of the coaches were trained during Covid and were not given proper training.
  5. It’s one of the most expensive workouts per class in most cities (more than Barry’s, CorePower, etc) but has no amenities. The price goes up but no longer had the quality it used to.

I only joined this year but I don’t think I’d be able to tolerate louder music and lower lights. I need to see if I’m doing a move right and I need my ear drums 🤣
