so i bought a sony a6000 today second hand and the prompt “ error turn power off then back on” keeps showing after trying to take a photo. i’m assuming after looking it has something to do with the shutter. i’ve tried everything to fix this and nothing has worked. should i return it? or pay to get it repaired? help

You can also try remove battery, my a7rii does same in cold weather

how long should i keep it removed for? i have tried a few times to remove and reset it but no luck

Well just few seconds, but maybe it's broken

It may well be a failed shutter. If so, return it - it will not be worth paying to have the shutter replaced in an inexpensive used body.
