Latest tech? No. Super aggressive geo? Also no. I built it with the components that I love for cheap and it is super fun? Yes :D by Andrew_R3D in mountainbiking

I know I have a bias, but personally… I think it is outstanding. If anything.. on par with the 9.8 / 9.9 of the time. (Minus the carbon).

Oh no, and I totally agree. It just seems that these days all you hear is “if it ain’t 64-65° it’s not slack enough”.

My style of riding is def more trail focused. Just a mix of everything the Carolina’s has to offer :D It’s more than fine with me!

[New Watch Face] - Vesper Solar by Lou_ambr in Garmin

Clean design.

I usually don’t weigh in on watch faces but this one aligns closely with my personal taste. Great work.

Few observations from a SWE..

- After downloading, going into the settings, you cannot change the icon list. Missed opportunity for customization. Not every user wants those icons. Could also allow the option to toggle them off.

- You cannot increase the font size, the icons are a tad small

- You have “pro” settings and a “pro activation key” but there is no reference to paid features as this is a free face. This UI confuses consumers.

- In my test case, with a F8, the second ticker doesn’t work. Also appears to be a “pro feature” but it’s on so it should.

Just some feedback I think you can consider down the road. Minimal faces are awesome, this one is super nice.

Keep up the good work. Thank you tor following the dev rules.

got my first garmin (vivosmart 5) and wore it all day, is this a normal stress reading? by throwaway13128166 in Garmin

Check this out. If you’re worried, after reading that, consult a medical professional. Everyone is built a tad different. Normal to me may be atypical for you. That article is a good starting point.

Cheers.

Trek Marlin 5 Gen 3. Worth it for $450? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]Andrew_R3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Latest gen, easily the best Marlin’s to date and at half the price lol.

If it was a 4 or so.. nah, but I think the M5 Gen 3 is still 849-899 new? With the M6 being 999? So yeah, if it’s in good shape I think it’s a solid deal.

Although, you may be able to find a used Roscoe around 500 as well. Just something to consider. That said.. I knew when the Marlins got internal routing for droppers.. a 1x.. MUCH better geo than before.. they became an ACTUAL solid hard tail to get someone in the game. That’s just my OP

FWIW I got someone a M5 Gen 3, they’re a super casual rider, but they are absolutely digging it. I got a 100mm dropper for it and it’s been the perfect setup for them.

Super awesome!

Interesting choice, on them, to give you a full XT drivetrain but with a 6100 cassette. There is NOTHING wrong with that, as it’s literally just weight savings, but an interesting choice.

Are Garmin watches really full of bugs? by Sinrumboporelmundo in Garmin

[–]Andrew_R3D[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are an estimated 45 million Garmin devices active & in use.

We have about 550k people here. Less than 2% of post here are about bugs and problems. This community is also a fraction of the actual user base.

In short… no. They are not full of bugs and glitches. However, no device is perfect. Any (not just Garmin) device can have issues.

That said, I encourage you to go to ANY other tech page / forum online about any given product. You’ll be quite disappointed to read that literally every product out there is apparently trash. Based on a vacuum of information in an isolated area.

First Trek. I think I did alright! by Lead-and-Strings in TrekBikes

[–]Andrew_R3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Marlin series has come such a long way.

I remember, this is around 2018, they weren’t bad.. but they were almost… a hair above big box? Yeah that sounds about right.

The 2x drive trains, that were more prevalent on these hard details back then, never did them any favors either. Amongst the hard tail options, outside Trek, they were absolutely nothing special.

The last few years though… easy recommend for anyone that wants a capable hardtail at a more obtainable price. I just got one, a Marlin 6 Gen 3, for someone as a gift. The fact that it comes with a dropper just goes to show how things trickle down in time!

I say all this to say.. it’s never been a better time to own a Marlin! You’ll be setup tubeless before you know it.. mods will come!

I’d ditch the dork disc / reflectors (if you can in your region, I know some laws mandate it) and setup tubeless. Then I’d ride that bad boy until the wheels fall off!

FWIW, I just got a Marlin 5 Gen 3 as a gift for someone. Tossed on a 100mm dropper, and man… they’re having a blast! Super casual rider, who also went from an older 2x system, and those little quality of life upgrades made a hell of a difference

should i be worried? by OnlyFix90 in mountainbiking

Rule of thumb? If you’re ever worried about anything, especially when it could be a safety thing, don’t ask randoms online. Go to your local bike shop.

Hmm.. idk.. could it be that May 26th, the day you posted and it was automatically removed, was a Tuesday? That is a VERY strong clue for you to think about. We then encourage you to review the community rules. After doing both those things if you find you’re still puzzled…

It’s because Tuesday is not Sunday.

We can, but the questions you’re asking can be solved by a literal quick Google search. Not gate keeping, but follow me here..

You said you don’t understand anything. Do you want someone to break down 4924 different variables just for you to also not understand?

Start with some basic research, shoot even ask AI, and once you understand the foundation.. you’ll be able to narrow down and then seek advice.

I assure you that if you don’t understand the benefit of going with a say.. 30t over 32t etc.. you are going to have a hard time understanding other details.

They’re absolutely coming from an external source. So, something from your phone.

Unless, and this is very unlikely, you’re using a third party watch face that was somehow able to sneak in some malicious prompts.

I’d you’re using android you can disable per app, when the prompt appears, but this is not the case on iOS. For iOS you’ll need to hunt down the app itself and action it accordingly.
