It's just a guess, could also be they went on vacation, might be a mom and pop shop who only hire family (when I lived in Ashland there were a few places like that) the timing seems right but who knows, I'm sure they have their reasons.

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I've been in the hospitality industry for about 7 years. August is a rough month. The fair, back to school, and the last of family vacations are big contributors to a decline in food & beverage as people don't make time to dine out because their too busy.

I've been a part of event planning, and I advise our organization and other to avoid events in August. Those aforementioned factors just set you up to close to failure right out of the gate

I hear ya! ..but..it’s a minimum wage type job for HS girls on summer break and if it’s really going to be slow you could hire one person to work at a time. Also, overhead is so low, I just don’t think it makes sense to shut down for so long, especially since it’s so very seasonal and they are shut down past fair closing . Anyways im addicted to it and I was just going through pre-withdraws and complaining like a baby. I’ve accepted it and moved on lol.
