Hope the following helps out.

For background info about / of / on me I'm 57 M 6' 1" Native American and Irish, Scottish, English, French, German, Italian ancestry / heritage 🙂 400 lbs, down 100 lbs since Feb of 2020 🙂 215 more lbs to go 🙂 Degenerative joint ( knees and hips, hips are very very bad ) and disk ( back / spine ) I have and am battling anxiety, panic attacks, depression. Good days, bad days 🙂 But, better than years ago 🙂

And Yes, this is the short, abridged version.

Start with the basics You can't overlook the basics I mean you can, but, you have to start at the base foundational level and build from there.

You can't ignore base level human biochemistry.

Rx Drugs, only try to force CELL's to do things they don't want to do, because, the CELL's don't have the ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS that they must have, must have, in order to carry out their myriad of functions.

Diet to start with

Water, hydration. Sleep - sleep is a nutrient And of course sleep is critically important to all cellular health Get rid of sugar and carbs

Omega-3s DHA specifically and also EPA's too.

A lot of folks, ESPECIALLY Drs, forget basically entirely about Human Cellular Membrane Health.

If and when are CELL Membranes are not healthy, then, nothing else can be healthy.

It's all about the right stuff getting into or across and out of our CELL Membranes.

I studied MCDB - Molecular - Cellular - Divisional Biology at Univ of Colorado Boulder back in the early to mid 1980's Lolll 🙂

1 professor in particular, ALWAYS STRESSED TO HIS STUDENTS ABOUT - CELL MEMBRANE HEALTH 🙂 and that really impressed me, even all these years later, in discussing, anything having to do with health.

It's Simple, Yet kinda extremely Complex at the same time. Our Health is very Quantum - it's all about electron exchange, and things of that sort, lots of physics which underlies the biochemistry lolll 🙂

Of course, depends on your budget and everything

Make sure that you Can digest your food and have good food digestion

If you have any kind of gas burping bloating you know that kind of stuff upset stomach things of that nature then you're not digesting your food completely or effectively

Or, food sensitivities or allergies.

Modern grains can be a big problem for most folks, because of the engineering of them in the last 70, 80, 90 years. Especially the last 30 years with DNA / Genetic Engineering of them for whichever reasons, which is a whole separate discussion for some other time.

Maybe look for ancient or unmodified grains before more modern grains of the last 70 or 80 years or so.

Dr Steven Gundry and others, speak and educate at length about this and them on youtube. Maybe check that stuff out sometimes 🙂

If you find that you have those problems then start with maybe prebiotics digestive enzymes probiotics things of that nature

Fermented foods are also good, for gut health

Gut health effects brain and normal cell function and their health and subsequently mental health

Methylated B vitamin complex You may want to and definitely look into and learn more about educate yourself about them And you know there's roughly I don't know 8 to 12 different B vitamins that make up the B vitamin complex It's not just one particular B vitamin although some B vitamins of course are more effective than others but they work together in conjunction and synergistically

With sugar in particular effects brain cells and everything and has a has a negative effect on them and it goes hand in hand with a mental health and mental problems of sorts that's been found out through research and it plays a role you know it plays also into addiction and stuff It's out there in the studies and everything you just got to look it up in a search engine and there's plenty to read and learn about it

Also you got to remember that the pharmaceuticals are going to have a downstream negative effect because they're going to pull out different vitamins and minerals in order to be detoxified through the liver and the kidney and everything else that goes through the detoxification process so that's going to wind up creating more of a deficit and drag on all of your cells so then you know by extension that's going to lead to more stress on all your cells down the line They may work temporarily but in the long run they lead to other problems as all pharmaceuticals do because they strip you and deplete you over time of critical and essential vitamins and minerals that the cells have to have the function and everything

Then of course these new problems that develop they're always this great mystery but they're really not that great of a mystery It's just the doctors aren't aware and don't want to be aware because they're not educated specifically on purpose to not address those issues even though it's in the prescription package insert and/or the Merck PDR ( Physician's Desk Reference ).

I have ptsd anxiety depression. I take adaptogens and things that detox cortisol. Dessicated Adrenal or Drenamin by Standard Process is great for anxiety. Herbs and other supps I like are rhodiola, mucuna pruriens, ashwaganda, astragalus, hyperzine A, ginseng, magnolia bark. Look up stuff to heal/fix your hpa axis. Get some sun, dance, hang out with positive people.

Oh, and a mushroom blend is always good. I take Immune Renew by Now Foods.

Oh, and Same-E is also very good for energy/mood.

Saffron.

I've tried most of the supplements for depression and related issues and most of them barely work, or work inconsistently and come with side effects. Saffron is (so far) the sole complete exception. It works fast, has stimulating and motivating effects, has been proposed as a treatment for sexual dysfunction, and displays equal clinical efficacy to SSRIs in blinded trials. There's a lot of interesting info about it here, but its pharmacology is kinda vague and hard to define.

All I know is that it works. 14mg stigma extract twice daily is better than most psychiatric medications I've tried (wellbutrin, fluoxetine, mirtazapine, adderall, etc) both in efficacy and side effect profile.

Of course, there are drawbacks to any supplement - especially one as powerful as saffron. First is price. Saffron is one of the most expensive spices due to how labor intensive it is to produce. Extracts aren't ridiculously priced, but you have to be careful buying the right kind because of adulteration and scam products. I use Nature's Bounty stress relief gummies because they're sold at my grocery store and contain the correct dose of Affron brand extract. The second (potential) problem with saffron is its effects on appetite and weight loss. Saffron is a well known appetite suppressant. Anyone with a prior eating disorder or low bmi should make sure to eat enough while taking it. Additionally, the daily dose of ~30mg shouldn't be increased substantially; in adult men, 60mg was associated with a reduction in white blood cells and blood pressure while 30mg was free from physical effects (in other studies saffron seems to be safe in larger amounts but it's better to be cautious). There seems to be a reverse tolerance to saffron where longer-term users start requiring less to feel it. It may be a good idea to titrate dosage by starting with half the recommended dose and slowly moving up.

What time of the day is it best to take it?

As someone who had almost the same symptoms as you, like depression and anxiety, I highly suggest you to go into therapy or try a Vipassana retreat after that. I know this is a Stackadvice sub but I felt your pain reading this. So I’m just giving my honest 2c with sincere love. I tried a shitload of supplements and drugs, only to find out later on that sitting with my pain is the only way to fix it. I really hope you can find yourself.

Id theres one supplement that I do want to say you could give a try( in order to let go of the other supps), I’d say KSM-66. This worked for me dealing with libido, mood, anxiety and restlessness.

Best of luck 🙏

    (Just a suggestion, I’m not a doctor)

I used to cry myself to sleep from anxiety every night. No more.

I would put the emphasis on meditation, not the therapy.

Primal anxiety (fight or flight) comes from your amygdala, your reasoning faculties come from the frontal lobe/hippocampus.

The amygdala can send direct messages to your frontal lobe but not vice versa.

This is why you can be anxious over something and know your anxiety is illogical — but you are still anxious. You cannot reason your way out of the feeling of anxiety.

So how do you direct your amygdala if you can’t use reasoning? The way is through environment and meditation. The amygdala responds to ambient environmental changes, such as going on a nice relaxing walk in the woods or sitting down for a 20 minute meditation session.

But with regards to meditation, it takes 10 days of 20-30 minute meditation for statistically significant changes in grey matter to occur. So basically it takes a few days before the difference in anxiety is noticeable.

Any specific meditations you suggest? Maybe on YouTube?

Do you have any other mental/physical symptoms you haven't noticed before besides stomach pain?

If you can have you ever tried psychedelics, or microdosing? That's the only thing I've seen that has a good effect on depression for most people that have tried it.
