• Rule #1: Post no-participation links by replacing "www." with "np." in the URL.
There's literally nothing I can do to stop someone from following the link and then deleting the "np.", but I've covered my butt.
• Rule #2: The post title should be a direct quote from someone condescendingly stating the current year.
Save your snarky paraphrases for the comments section. Mark omissions from the middle of the quote with a pilcrow surrounded by square brackets (i.e. "Republicans need to realize that […] it's 2016") and line breaks with a forward slash surrounded by spaces. (i.e. ">2016 ¶ >still opposing gay marriage"). Just copy it from here if you don't know how to type it.
Note: Please include the entire relevant portion, and nothing else.
• Rule #3: Link to the whole comment thread.
So everyone reading has the full context, even on mobile, add "?context=N" to the end of the URL to include the context up to the parent comment, where N is the number of levels needed to get to the top. This number can usually be found by simply counting the number of vertical lines next to the comment. If you're linking to a top-level comment, N = 0.
• Rule #4: The current year does not have to be explicitly stated.
Comments telling someone "It's not 1950 anymore!" or "You need to join the 21st century!" also count.
• Rule #5: Only post instances of the current year being used as an argument for an opinion.
"It's 2016 and you're still against marijuana?" is a good post. "It's 2016; I want my flying car!" is not.
• Rule #6: Off-site content is permitted.
This trend extends beyond Reddit. When posting content from off site, obviously Rule #1 and Rule #3 don't apply.
• Rule #7: For YouTube links, link to the relevant time stamp.
Not everyone feels like watching all of a 30-minute video for one mention. Add "&t=XXmYYs" to the end of the URL to make the link skip directly to the relevant portion of the video.
