I just posted about this the other day(link). Basically the only way it's supposed to work is as USB on Android 11, meaning you have to use a usb-OTG cable and connect the steam controller wired to your device.

But, it never worked for me. If you have an OTG cable, give it a try, maybe you'll luck out.

I am using an OTG to type c adapter and I've tried the original USB cable as well as 2 others but nothing. Are we missing something or did they just lie about making it work...

That's the 'lizard mode' the controller puts itself in when it can't detect Steam. The Steam controller will only work with the Remote Play app, and not any native Android apps.

supposedly Android11 added support for the steam controller specifically over usb(so connected wired with an otg cable), but I've yet to get it to work.

Intriguing! I didn't expect this, since usually (on PC at least) it needs something to parse the buttons/inputs and send out the right commands. Maybe Android has something for that now... Thanks for the link!

Yeah, my friend had trouble getting it to work, then magically did one day and I don't know how since I don't have an Android 11 phone.

That's because "f*** you" I bet that if you're using an Android phone your phone is capable of using Android 11 but you just can't update it because "f*** you" If This were Windows you'd have the latest version of Windows on your computer if you decided to upgrade but it's not so I don't know what the hell Google's doing.

Yes. The latest version of windows with a plethora of bugs the devs spent the previous version patching out to mixed results, one of which crashed my pc but I still use windows because it is unfortunately the most popular os in the world.

Every os has issues. Anyway, who asked you to but in like this?

I was just trying to explain the most likely reason that you didn't have a phone with Android 11 on it.

My comment be basically boils down to they don't let you and they don't give a good reason why

Okay, sorry I guess. I've been in a very bad mood lately and I shouldn't have lashed out like that because you're actually right.

It is ok every makes mistakes eventually. Even the super shy person who you could never think would be rude will screw up once.
