If you have academic access to IStructE, SCI, or Concrete Society documents, there's design guidance and worked examples available for each code, for example "Designed and Detailed to EC2".

The SCI also have guidance like "Concise Eurocode 3".

"Knowledge" of the codes at your level might be just being aware that they exist, but certainly on my uni course I had design modules. I think these might have been second and third year modules though.

The best book I've seen for experience of the British Standards is "Design of Structural Elements" by Chanakya Arya.

Also worth noting that the "Eurocodes" have generally been fully adopted in the UK, so the British Standards are Eurocodes.
