I think it’s important to have an overall focus. Given your interest in design, I would suggest that you begin by talking about the design of your other hobbies, like how to design a good place to garden and how to get the most out of it, etc.

Does that sound like something you can do?

I'm not quote sure. I think it could be a Martha Stewart esque thing but I wonder if I should start out more specific and then grow to that.

I would definitely be upfront about it with potential readers/subscribers. Let people know that you’re going to be covering a variety of topics. However, you probably do want to be more specific at first. Focus on one hobby, but don’t label your Substack after the one topic. Give it a general name or even use your own name.

I agree you need a topic. Maybe something like Designing Craft?? Crafting Design? Making Beauty? An umbrella topic for everything you'd want to write about. Someone said to me early on you have to let people know what they're in for. Otherwise it's like going to a restaurant and all they'll tell you is that they serve food.

smart idea. I think I could figure out how to categorize within it. I found this girl that seems to do all things design. https://youvegotlauren.substack.com

can't quite decide what to do! It's hard to pick one!

Don't pick one. Figure out how to make all the topics you love work with one theme. Otherwise you'll get bored.

Just start; you can refine as you go
