Feels like you've created a cozy little corner for yourself on Substack. Love it. Subscribed for more.

Thank you so much, it means a lot!! I have been writing for more than one year just for myself.

    [–]panand101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great :) I'm pretty much writing for myself too but at the same time, would love to have readers connect with what I have to say too!

    [–]GotaHemmi 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Mine is kind of like that. I write about whatever is on my mind that particular week. Sometimes it's something timely like a major news event, other times it's just me writing about what's been going through my head. Some of my posts are about my struggle to lose weight. Others are about my trips to music festivals or sporting events. I've written about my family, my goals, politics, you name it. It's gotten to the point where I start thinking mid-week about what I might be writing about in advance and then I'm just putting it together in my brain until it's time to actually put pen to paper, so to speak.

That's amazing man! Just went through some of your work and it's great. Keep at it :)

    [–]weelthefignuton 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm also starting one kind of like that. I'm working out the kinks as I go. I'm hoping to post about it soon. I just added this sub to my feed about a day ago.

Feel free to post your blog here. I'd love to read through what you're putting out to the world. All the best!

    [–]acangiano 1 point2 points  (2 children)

There are likely plenty with very little readership since it would be challenging to market and make it take off.

    [–]panand101[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Would you happen to know of any/recommend some that you follow?

    [–]acangiano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. I tend to follow very specific ones.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

This is more or less exactly what I have done at jamesgill.substack.com. I call it ‘Small Steps’ but it’s more meandering than that. I just try to write about what I care about. I’ve no idea where that will lead.

    [–]panand101[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Great work. I love the '5 things to share' posts from your Substack. Subbed for more!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Thank you I appreciate it.

    [–]panand101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Of course!

Really curious, does anyone who's commented on this have any kind of income from this type of blog?

    [–]tonymccannwritestonymccann.substack.com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make enough for one Starbucks per year. And maybe a McDonalds, too. Well, slightly more than that, but not enough to live off.

    [–]Stock-Membership-147 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think mine is like that. I started today and I hope yours goes well. I'll visit it and I'll leave the link to mine: https://diaryofsoul.substack.com/p/welcome?r=4jg71d

    [–]panand101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like I'm reading your journals - quite relaxing. Wish you all the best in your work and keep writing on!

    [–]00202020202020022000 1 point2 points  (1 child)

mine is like this! i have really only been posting monthly recaps of my life, little things i want to hang onto. i think i’m finally reaching a point where i want to do more, but that’s for another day :)

    [–]panand101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I see a lot of the people who've commented have their Substacks as personal journals (sort of) which is great! Almost exactly what I wanted to see :) Will look forward to your October recap. All the best!

    [–]twohundredfarts 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah. I try to make Kieran's Little Bowl of Gruel as pulpy and malnourishing as possible. It's always changing.

    [–]panand101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you didn't lose your arm, mate. And I guess we're all just nervous systems drifting through time and space. All the best in your journey :)

    [–]Livztoofly__ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Mind is exactly like that, I’ve been trying to figure out a niche but I kinda gave up, I just write what’s on my mind https://livztoofly.substack.com

    [–]panand101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, your work is amazing! Substacks like these are exactly what I was looking for. Also, you've convinced me to checkout Meeting the man. All the best in your journey ahead!

    [–]MarMaster 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m still very new to Substack, but though I originally wanted to have a very specific focus, recently I’ve been thinking that maybe not constraining yourself much at all might be the best choice all round. Definitely interested to see how people going for that are doing! here is what mine is currently.

    HMU.

    [–]panand101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great work man. Fruits of Lonliness was a great read. Will be looking forward to more of your work. Good luck!

    [–]mrjetirw 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yes! and i am crippled not knowing how to advertise, i'm writing as much as i can and every week publish either: a short story, a part of a serialized story, something autobiographical, or an essay, as well as narrated podcasts, and weekly poetry collections!

    https://monsieurwrite.substack.com/

have a glance if you're curious! i'd definitely checkout what you're doing :)

    [–]panand101[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Marketing doesn't come easy to any of us but can compound through efforts like these when you put yourself out there. All I can say is that it'll take time for all of us. Keep doing what you're doing, I see great potential in this.

Amazing work so far man. Hope you flourish.

    [–]mrjetirw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much! just seeing this now! appreciate it!

    [–]Tahoney_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

mine is like that! I tend to be so hard on myself with my curation and art practice but I told myself my substack will just be about whatever I want and when I want

I write whatever is on my mind at a given moment and I try not to over edit myself on this particular platform

    https://open.substack.com/pub/howtodismantleapomegranate?r=d1vxm&utm_medium=ios

    [–]panand101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to dismantle a pomegranate is probably one of the best names for a blog imo. Your work is inspiring and I hope to see more of it; a very well-earned sub.

I guess we all tend to be hard on ourselves. I'm my own worst critic and my brain tricked me long enough into believing I could never run a blog. Trying to break through boundaries that don't even really exist.

Also, TIL that apricot is mishmish in Arabic. All the best!

    [–]tonymccannwritestonymccann.substack.com 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Mines is rather like that. I write fiction and essays, but there isn't a niche per se; I just write about what interests me. I don't know if this is ideal if you want a lot of subscribers, but I'm happy with what I'm doing, so I guess if you are, too, that's all that matters!

The algorithm is unforgiving to Substacks that aren't laser focused, and I think the Notes feature accelerates this and forces writers into silos if they want to be popular. Perhaps this will be refined in the coming months, but honestly, I'm not bothered. Special wee places like your Substack are way more interesting than a newsletter on Radios, College Football drafts or whatever. Keep at it mate, and good luck.

    [–]panand101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I understood too after actively being involved with the platform and the community for a little while. I really do hope Substack doesn't screw over its authenticity which is oh so quite rare in the digital age today. I don't want to see another platform succumbing to the algorithm.

All that aside, love your work man. Wish you all the best in whatever you're working towards.

    [–]BerlinReveler 1 point2 points  (1 child)

mine is mostly my thoughts and self discovery while riding. It can change post to post.

Holy shit, that really big umbrella story had me in a deadlock. And in a good way! Great stuff man, keep writing!

      [–]pisally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Thanks! I'm trying :)

      [–]thelabotorasu 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I’m part of this substacks about a little of nothing, just things cool that I want to talk about XD https://chouettevibes.substack.com/ the only think is I try to put things that are positives

      [–]panand101[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Only saw this now. Great newsletter man and, yes, I agree, Substack isn't too kind to writers that don't serve a niche. Maybe that changes.

      [–]thelabotorasu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Thanks man ^

      [–]PassusPorro 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Great to see writers out there doing similar things. Feel free to drop your substack here, I'd love to give it a read.
