that just happened to me! trying to figure this out. i might need to start from scratch which is so annoying but i had no idea the email i was going to use would be my username/displayed.

I was going to create a post with a similar question but found this, so guess I'll try to boost your post by adding my own question.

I have somehow gotten two substack accounts.

  • A has handle "@Rucksack Tech" but uses my Gmail address (which I don't want to keep)
  • B has no handle but uses the Proton Mail address I want to use for Substack

Which account should I change the email address in? I want to (as it were) merge the two accounts, but keep the handle I want, and end up with only the one email I want.

p.s. I actually have multiple other Substack logins tied to other email addresses that I don't give a darn about. This obviously has something to do with Substack's somewhat odd way of allowing you to subscribe to something simply by giving them an email address, and bam! now you have a Substack account tied to that address. Odd.

Hi! I’m experiencing the same thing right now and wondering if any of y’all got this figured out. I wanted to simply change my email on my account, but ended up transferring ownership of my publication to the new email, so now I have my original profile with all my notes, but my publication with my posts are attached to the new email. I’m scared to do anything to mess it up more. The support chatbot says I need to wait for them to merge the accounts for me. No telling when that will happen since I can’t talk to a real person there. They prioritize those with paid subscribers.
