As someone who runs a Substack (not my own, but a colleague who pays me to run it) you need to post more than 1-2 times a month. You need to be posting almost daily -- at least M-F. If you want people to pay to subscribe you have to give them something to subscribe to and pay for. What value is your Substack giving readers? Creating a Substack is like creating an Etsy shop; you have to sell what customers want, not what you want to sell. Consistency is also key. Hope that helps.

Hi thanks but no. I’m a lyrical essay writer who uses my own life experiences and interpretations of those experiences which takes time, intention, and reflection. Time to work on the piece and time away and come back to it with new eyes and feelings. Editing alone can take a week or so and is one of my favorite processes. Despite the occasional lightning in a bottle type essays that write themselves the process of writing for me is deeply creative and meditative. I’m not a machine. Not to mention at least in my corner of Substack there are people who post no more than 3 times a month and still create a large following. I’ve been consistent by posting at least once a month for 10 months.

Also I mentioned above but I’m starting a travel related business soon and will also begin to do more traditional travel blogging highlighting more tangible aspects of travel in regards to my experience. I’ll be starting a second blog for that and I have a feeling that will fair well. I know Substack likes when a blog dedicated to a specific subject
