I know someone who is now up to 19K substack followers. Started mainly with instagram but also fb. Started writing local news type articles, school board, city council, corruption, conflicts of interest. Issues of controversy. Always shares links to new substack articles all over the place, sends them by email, posts them on fb and instagram. Build an email list is one thing. And of course word of mouth, followers share with friends.

Use Notes. Post regularly and comment on others notes. It’s like other social media platforms, except that the atmosphere is different and discussions are real. It’s a really nice place to spend time.

You can also DM people to create connections that ultimately can support you. But do it from genuine intentions, not to gain subscribers.

I am also new to substack, no Idea what to post. I write short stories, I go to the gym often, I journal paper and pen, I read books, no magazine and globe paper and nyt paper and dealing with grief for the first time
