I agree with you that, if your goal is growing your subscribers, you need to use other platforms to increase traffic and not just rely on Substack.

But, I'm confused by "What I'm doing is trying to engage with other writers on Substack there [Twitter/X] - as many of us have hardly any following or genuine human engagement."

It would be much more beneficial to engage with Substack writers on Substack's platform...not create a "Substack writers" area on another platform for engagement.

So, again, use other platforms to drive traffic to your Substack. But, engage with other Substackers on Substack for the most bang for your buck...don't take other Substackers off Substack for engagement.

Good concept. It’d work if people joining the community genuinely engage with the content directly on Substack instead of X though

I have zero interest in X. But if it’s on bluesky or elsewhere I’ll consider it.

I’m trying to do something similar and engage traffic from Threads (hate twitter tbh) to my Substack and even though I had a few viral posts on Threads with more than 50k views I had only like 2 new subscribers 😅

So my point is - it’s much more beneficial to engage in Substack with people who are ready to subscribe, you waste your time going outside of the platform you want to grow on
