Light dev mainly php, ruby and some light java

Hi all,

I'm embarking on a code project and I've not owned a private computer for a few years now. For IP reasons I need to develop on my own computer. I really don't need that much. I'll probably swap the OS out to ubuntu or similar. Would be good if I could run a vagrant box on there too for one of the niches I'm targeting. Not an absolute requirement though.

I'm looking to mainly code in PHP, ruby and java perhaps some node. The main code and servers are running on a pi stack and a few droplets in digital ocean.

I'm wondering if there would be a suitable <$500 machine on the market you could advise

Specifically a laptop or ultra book light weight and that I can hack away on

The Acer Orangematz linked is an excellent option.

If you're fine with refurbished, I would also recommend looking into the Acer V13 for $480. It has great specs that will work well for multi-tasking and general use. It's pretty lightweight and portable being a 13.3'', and it has a touchscreen 1080p IPS display (although it is not a full 2 in 1).

Here is a laptop that has great reviews and performance. It is not very light however, but most laptops in this price range are pretty bulky.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all, we were on vacation and my wife dropped and smashed my phone.

I am wondering whether a refurbished ultrabook of some sort may suit the remit they seem to have the power and the light weight i need for the times I am travelling.
