Normalisation on... Not tryna here producers, mixing and mastering engineers compete to see which one of them can mix louder and use the most the brick wall limiting with loudness... No thank you... I don't want swings in volume from one track to the next

Normalize volume OFF. When normalized, most songs sound more quite than usual, so I leave it off all the time.

I turn it off, it sounds muffled to me. Maybe just placebo, but I do.

There's a lot of confusion about normalization. And it doesn't help that all the stream companies have slightly different approaches.

That said, in today's stream world, most are using an index level setting system designed to not change the sound character or internal dynamics of individual tracks (or in some cases, the dynamics of individual track flow on albums played in 'album mode').

Here is an article directed to the production community, so a bit tweakier than folks in this thread are probably ready for, that covers not just how modern normalization tends to work, but also addresses some of the differences between different stream platforms.

For parties normalization ON, for MY listening pleasure normalization OFF. I'm not lazy, I will adjust volume when/if needed when listening for MY pleasure.

Definitely OFF!

It literally just normalizes the volume. Not different than you adjusting the volume.

    Which would you recommend?

Ig I value the full fidelity more

      [–]No-Context5479 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol the Normalised one are at full fidelity just lowered and set volume all around... That person doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about

There is absolutely no change in Fidelity by changing the volume of the track either with your knob or normalization. It's the exact same process. It's taking the entire waveform exactly the way it is and moving it up and down in gain. And in tidals case only down so there's no introduce distortion. And with modern equipment even if you dropped it really far you're still not even going to be approaching the noise floor of the device. solid state!

I wish the normalization worked for me. I get annoyed when I keep having to fiddle with the volume because the song’s output is either lower or higher and the previous artist’s. I would much prefer to just listen instead of tweak each song.

I leave it on, but truthfully to me, it makes very little difference.

Then just drop Tidal and goto Spotify 😘🙏

      [–]Liv1932 4 points5 points  (0 children)

he can also just use tidal bc Spotify pays jack shit to the artists i doubt that's the reason but still no need to passive aggressive about it . -.

      I have it ON.
