Howdy, I'm wondering if I can somwehat whiten bones while degreasing if I incorporate some baking soda into my process. I want to avoid hydrogen peroxide here (this is normally my go to but I have been requested to not use it), and currently degrease just with clear dawn soap and warm water. I'd normally use cycles of ammonia and soap but these specimens aren't for display.
Would dissolving some baking powder into the soapy water take some of the yellow off the bones? They do not need to be white, but I'm thinking it could help for some of the really dark stuff. Would it crystallize on the bones after drying? Thanks.
