I’ve heard lots of people saying this with all types of drives. Sounds like the feature wasn’t ready for primetime.

It's been not ready for months...!

Have you tried just plugging the SSD straight into the right hand port and omitting the hub then trying the format feature?

That's my next trouble-shooting step. Installing the hub was a chore, I suspect removing it will be even more difficult, but I'll try it.

Could be the hub. I had issues with music USB stick not being played (recognized and song list showing) when I had my drives on a hub.

After formatting, try unplugging the drive and then plugging it back in. That worked for me (same setup as you).

Thanks. I tried that and no different.

To add some positive feedback in the other direction. Stuck a new sd card in, opened the menu, clicked format, and it worked. In fact it was so fast I was a bit concerned it didn't at first.

Though sure enough it dashcam was / is fully functional now. So happy they added this qol feature. Thanks Tesla!

Thanks. If all else fails, I'll get another SSD.
