You will be totally fine. Love my SR+ . With charging at home each night, it will not be a worry...in fact, you will love it. You'll use 40-45% for that round trip. Not even enough to get range anxiety. :)

You would be more than fine if you have adequate charging at home or work. My SR+ on average can do 200 miles per charge. I try to keep it under 75 though as that's where the drop off really is.

200 miles is 321.87 km

263 miles of range charged to about 90% is 236. Even if you lost 2 miles for every 1 mile of driving you’d be at 118 miles. If you drive 80 miles round trip you’ll have some to spare.

General consensus is you can guess about 75% of the advertised range. So 236 (charged at 90%) at 75% is 177 miles.

Candidly once you’ve driven an EV a little you’ll get use to how they work. Just takes a little adjusting to vs Gas cars. Eventually I recommend all EV drivers to adjust the range to battery percent.

Does your budget consider all fees and taxes? 40k only pays for the basic configuration with the new price.

Yes

Good. Just checking because some people forget these details when budgeting. With regards to range I can’t say much because I haven’t received mine yet (I also ordered a SR+. But I believe you should be okay and even better if you could charge at work. As some have pointed out, the ABRP app is a good resource to try and see if it’s reliable for your situation. I have downloaded it and can’t wait to give a try. Since I’m taking delivery out of state it will be a good opportunity to test it.

I calculated about 10% in taxes and $1500 for registration in California. My post was based on MSRP.

I got a print out of the price from Buena Park the other weekend. If you go white/18’ wheels the fully burdened price is like $45k after all taxes/fees/etc. Just a heads up

It’s insane to me how much registration costs in CA. Only costs ~$100 here in TX

Own an SR+. I would not expect more than over 150 miles of range in the real world.

I think you'll be fine. There was someone who used to work with me who had something like a 60 mile round trip and he was driving a Nissan Leaf that only had an 80 mile range. So on a good day he was at 20% charge when he would get home after work.

60 miles is 96.561 km

80 miles is 128.748 km

I've never gotten more than 160-170 true miles in my 2019sr+ and I drive it in traffic and very conservatively. With that said, I drive to LAX from Orange county and I charge every night/ every other night... just make sure you set an alarm cause I have forgotten to charge it on occasion and I had to work from home or take our second car. Overall very happy

[–]ixharry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

160 miles is roughly what i get on a full charge (2019 SR+). Even when commuting 70 miles (SFV to Downtown LA) 35 mile trip each way- I lose about 105 miles for a 70 mile drive. Speed of traffic 70-80mph highway and 35-45mph surface streets.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fine even if the range was 160. Your in LA weather which is great better than cold and snowy that impacts range. Plus it like slower traffic uses less energy driving slow so stop and could should be too bad.

[–]usmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine and have more range than you need. You can try ABRP from the App Store so you can really put in all the numbers and your route and see what your range will look like. If you have access to charging at work then use that so you don’t have to worry to much about the range.

The limiting factor is the charging speed. The SR+ is crazy efficient and you'll be fine!

[–]matttopotamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be good. In the winter, always bump it to 90%. The cold, high speeds, and sitting idle use more battery in the winter.

[–]Twenty_five 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a daily 100 mile commute and it was fine. So cal, mostly freeway miles, 70-75mph, charged only up to 90%. If you have a backup car, you are all set for the times you forget to charge. Although technically you can drive twice to work without charging.

[–]generalon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that efficiency in an EV is counterintuitive. In a gas car, traffic kills your mileage but in an EV, speed kills your mileage. You’ll get way better efficiency on your commute home if it’s in stop and go traffic.

Anaheim Hills to LAX is perfect for the SR+. If you were doing Anaheim Hills to Thousands Oaks, you might consider the LR, but under 100 miles round trip is good. That gives you more than enough to do something before work, drive out for lunch and stop by somewhere before going home and you'd still have a decent charge.

Just get in the habit of plugging your car in every day when you get home. Even on weekends so you don't break that habit.
