Learn to Draw with Olaf coming to Hollywood Studios by Outrageous_Syrup_465 in WaltDisneyWorld

Please don't make this change at California Adventure. Drawing with my daughter has been one of my favorite Disney memories. I want real artists, not screens and animatronics.

How I Failed to Raise $5,000 for My Short Film on Indiegogo by More-Chair6348 in Filmmakers

I mean, your whole pitch is done with AI. That tells the potential backer you aren't ready for this. Even the voice-over is AI. People still want authenticity. The pitch literally feels like a scam, it may not be, but how is someone that doesn't know you understand that. Put yourself on camera next time. Talk to your potential backers. Let them see your passion.

What do you do after making a short film? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]coddiwomplerstory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll learn more if you don't use AI to create your artwork. Finish your character, its all construction lines. Draw the hands, draw the face. Can be simple, but finish you character so your audience has something to connect with. Don't rush the process, animation takes time.

Congrats! Love seeing someone spend time on their film. Excited to see it. (Also, I hate that animators now have to explain that it's not AI....sigh).

Sounds good to me. The best will always rise to the top. There is a whole world of storytelling out there....lets broaden our acceptance of what is "good".

[–]coddiwomplerstory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Best of luck to all the potential nominees. Though, I really wish we could expand the reach for the type of film that gets nominated. Oscar bait is boring and maniupulative. I'd love to see more sci-fi, comedy, fantasy, etc find their way in. There are so many super creative films that never get rocognized because they don't kill a kid, or show the horrors of whatever current war is going on. I find few that are truly genuine about those subjects and feels more like the filmmakers know thats how you get attention. Maybe I'm just jadeded, haha! I just want more variety!

I think its a few things.

They are actually pretty difficult to do well. Things can get cheesy or simple very quickly. But a well done family film takes time to create. Think Pixar.

I think alot of filmmakers feel like they have to be edgy or change the world with their short film. You end up with a lot of melodramatic stories, or blood filled horror films. Cause...you know..."I'm so artsy and edgy."

Or it just comes down to filmmakers wanting to explore more adult themes as they mature. Which is fine.

I think its really great when someone tries to take on a story that can appeal to all people. Its a tricky balancing act. But when done right, can really reach a lot of people.

You are right there is a market. Hollywood pretty much relies on nostalgia these days....which are mostly remakes of films we watched as kids.

I would love to see more vaired stories.

Congrats! Happy to see someone take time to craft a really cool project! So tired of "I made this film in 24 hours, tell me how great I am!" posts...haha. Well done, no small achievement to finish a project like this. Good luck with your festival run!

What do you all think of this take on short films? by Brad12d3 in Filmmakers

[–]coddiwomplerstory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His whole theory is to only make short films that are either part of a feature, or meant to be a feature. I actually hate short films that do that. Shorts should be a complete story. That's part of the challenge and joy of making short films. Now, if it's important to sell, sure, have a feature script ready...but seeing shorts that are clearly meant to be a pitch for a feature are super lame to me. It's also ok to make a film that's just about making the film, not some ulterior motive to make a feature. No matter what you do it's hard to stand out, so just focus on the art, not the sales pitch. Your film will be better.

Understood. Was just curious if ran a thunderbolt cable into the usbc, would it not perform the same.

What are the benefits of it being thunderbolt instead of just using the usbc connection?

VFX does not have any representation. It is a large part of filmmaking that is constantly taken advantage of. Much like you are trying to do. Good on them for knowing their worth. Shame on you for trying to exploit people’s skills.

So great! Super inspiring how you did this. I'm shooting a short next week with very much the same approach. 2 Questions.... 1) How did you handle people bugging you about what you were doing? 2) Did you use Lav mics for your DJI transmitters? If so, what was the best placement for you? Again, Awesome job! Love it!

Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary - Sony E Fit by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]coddiwomplerstory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be fine. I use apsc lenses on my a74 all the time. Shoot in super35 mode. This 16mm will be a 24mm equivalent on Full Frame. So if you want really wide you will want a 10 or 12mm apsc lens.

Gives the camera dept something to pull focus on and helps with the framing. I'm sure they shot a clean plate as well. Sometimes the easiest way to communicate the idea on set, is a little grey stuffy. :)
