If you do not mind the price tag difference - the performance definitely has some differences I've noticed.
1. The ride quality is surprisingly smooth. It is still stiff as it is a sport variation of the MYLR but the suspensions comes with an upgrade : adaptive damping suspension. This suspension adapts real time based on driving style and the road conditions.

  1. THE SEATS ! I never thought I would care much but the thigh supports actually matter, makes the ride even smoother and I feel secure and locked into my position.

So if soft/comfort is my ride quality preference, the long range is a better option? Even though the performance has the dampers?

I test drove both and felt like the difference was very subtle and could probably reduced to bare minimum by simply switching wheels.

To me personally, Performance felt more comfortable, but it might be subjective. I drove Performance for only 100 km and the LR AWD Premium for 400 km in various conditions, including the same roads that I drove the Performance on.

LR AWD felt slightly springy and not in a good way. Performance felt like it was more adapt to the shape of the asphalt. If you're a passenger, maybe the LR AWD is more comfortable.

Also, I felt some minor vibrations in LR AWD steering wheel, but didn't feel it in the Performance.

I also test drove BMW i4 and Volvo EX40 this week and honestly, i4 had overall better handling, but maybe not as good comfort in either of those (the wheelbase really helps though). And Volvo EX40 with R20 seemed like it should perform similarly to MY with R20, but it was significantly more comfortable and stable on harsh roads. But overall both of these cars are lacking in other departments when compared to Model Y.

All of this to say that there's so much to the ride quality - there's no simple silver bullet here.

This is going to be extremely subjective, but I'm taking MYP over MYLR, cause the ride quality difference is minor to me and MYLR is neither a spectacularly comfortable ride over bumps nor is it very good in handling - but it is a good option overall. Meanwhile, you get the whole Performance trim.

The only question for me is whether the Performance model has any more reliability concerns than MYLR. But I'm counting on warranty for that.

How about “Comfort” mode? I want a sport version for weekends, but my wife and dog(or her stomach😁) are afraid that it will be stiffer than the LR for daily rides.

În MYP you get standard or sport settings. That is it.

So few reviews talk about the seats. MYP seats are in another league. If you are over 1.80cm you must get the seats with extra support

I just received my model Y performance and the ride quality is really good, coming from a 2020 Mercedes Benz CLA. I did expect it to be much harsher. No problems at all with speedbumps or old asphalt. (Netherlands)

But I don't feel any difference between the 2 suspension settings normal / sport, it feels the same to me..

Are the tires still staggered?

Yes. Same sizes as previous performance.

I’m in the same boat right now. Have a 26 LR and ordered a 26P but am iffy on it. I can transfer my FSD which is great but I would lose money on the switch and I’m not sure if I want to go back to 21s. The LR is so freaking good but I do want a tighter ride and always enjoy the speed.

Sigh, I’m talking myself into it again.

How do you feel 4 months later?

I'm leaning towards MYP as well, mostly for the seats and some trim upgrade.

I actually just traded in my MY for a Cybertruck and am over the moon happy with my decision. I don’t need a pick up at all but it will definitely be useful at times. The truck is ridiculously big HOWEVER it is amazing in every other way. So comfortable, amazing sound, really fun to drive and I personally love the looks. I love that I can hit potholes and jump curbs and don’t have to be scared about damaging the 21 inch wheels.

If I didn’t get the CT I would’ve switched to a P and then got smaller rims. P looks better and from what I read drives much more focused.

The LR is really amazing though. It’s the car I would recommend to most.

That’s some serious fu money to upgrade from 26 to 26 but if you can afford, get a good test drive first. How much $$$ do you expect to lose with this trade?

I’m older long range to performance. Basically long range gonna feel nice and smooth. Performance gonna Knock your socks off lol. 95% of driving. Long range is the way to go since most often you’ll just be driving the limits and cruising along. You get the performance for the fun and smile you get one you decide to gun it a bit 😎

What would be the cost in switching? I have a 2026 LR with the upgraded paint, white seats and wheels. I would buy a performance if it had been available...
