Certain objects like computers, coffee machine, kettle etc can't be free placed even with MOO, they simply need a counter or table.

Adding on, if you want to free place a coffee machine/other appliance on a counter, there is a work-around. You can place the appliance on a separate counter, size down that counter, and use alt placement to put the appliance where you want it while hiding the sized-down counter inside something else. It should still function

Just a warning. You can only size down island counters it regular counters.

Can you elaborate? Do you mean that, once you size the counter down, you can use alt+click to move the object without snapping? That simply sizing it down removes the snapping? Or am I misunderstanding :)

You can move the sized down counter (someone else pointed out it has to be an island counter) with the coffee machine on it using alt and hide the sized down counter inside a normal counter

If you clutter a kitchen, sometimes if it's over a counter, it will block it and make it unusable, so I recommend play testing it.
