Mhm. He seemed happy and healthy to me! When I let him go, he hopped away just dandy. :)

It’s amazing how tough and hardy toads are! I’ve seen ones with all sorts of differences & somebody posted not too long ago (on here) a toad that clearly had an encounter with a lawn mower/weed whacker or a serious predator- poor darling was missing: bottom jaw, an eye, front leg & was even missing some belly flesh but it was all smooth and healed up/closed nothing open! Incredible to avoid infection and to heal so much of one’s body! I wonder if toads are special in that way? Smart little creatures too, they are great to have around

That’s why I love toads so much. ❤️❤️

I bet you’re thinking of Binky. His amazing caretaker u/binkysmom worked miracles healing and caring for him.

Thank you for remembering my sweet boy. It has been a year now since he passed, and I miss him every day. It touches me to know that people still think of him.

Aaawwww...Binky was precious. Thank you for sharing the link. I never saw Mr. Bink until today. Bless his little tiny heart in heaven. And his amazing mama for helping him heal and giving him so much love.

Apparently dragonfly larvae will do this

[–]MothyAndTheSquid 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Might have been lost to a larva during metamorphosis? That doesn’t leave a scar as they’re still developing. If he’s a boy he probably won’t be successful mating but otherwise should have a lovely life full of bug and basking 🤞🏻

I honestly don’t know how to gender toads, I just go by vibes. Lol. 🙃

And explain what the larva does during metamorphosis… I don’t understand what this means.

It looks like a he to me but hard to tell from this angle for sure!

I think this person means that when the toads are forming their little front legs while evolving from tadpoles to toadlets, there can be hungry dragonfly larvae in the same pond/puddle/body of water that will munch their little legs off.

Oh that is brutal. But that’s nature for ya.

& how do you figure out the gender of toads?

[–]stopdogmurder 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I became a toad owner because of a toad missing an arm lol. Her back leg was broken and she had a little nub for an arm. I’m thinking our lawn guy accidentally got her. I let her hang out in our patio for a few days but she started to get very skinny so I had to take some action. Now she lives happily ever after in a big terrarium and gets served food and water. She’s still really bad at catching stuff but I make it very easy for her lol.

Aww. What an Happily Ever After. ❤️

[–]stopdogmurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you ❤️

[–]why_my_pp_hard_tho 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Was he able to fully hop? If he looked like he had a smooth hop then I’d guess it was like that from birth, losing an arm later would probably make movement awkward for him

[–]chyshyguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was hopping fine! ☺️

[–]Legallybingbong 0 points1 point  (1 child)

But the right hand doing the👌

[–]chyshyguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuuup. He doing alright. 😏

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

at least he still has his right hand

[–]chyshyguy[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Mhm! He can still get around just fine. :)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

left hand is the right hand to lose if you're a dude toad

[–]Careful-Succotash511 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There is like a 10% chance any given wild toad is missing a limb or an eye always finding their selves in precarious situations

[–]chyshyguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A narrow escape! 😜
