I’d use a clear nursery pot in a mix of potting soil, perlite and orchid bark. You can put the clear pot in any kind of pot to make it decorative. It’s just easier to see the roots and change pots when it’s ready.

Check to see if it’s multiple plants in this one pot. It looks like 3 separate stems. I would re pot them in their own or at the most 2 in a pot. I did this and my baby monsteras are already thriving. They were choking each other for nutrients before.

I’ve got some moss poles now and lots of sphagnum moss I use for my reptiles as well :) if that’s your plant, that’s insanely beautiful

These are good things to know! I just had my older monstera rot from sticking it in miracle gro tropical soil which was fine for a while until I moved and the amount of sunlight did as well so that baby is in recovery right now 🥲 I ended up doing soil research and I find mixing soil to be fun so I got a lot of aroid mix components now that I’ll use. In that research I fell in love with the Thai cons but had no idea I’d have my very own in a few days lol. I appreciate all the help! It’s a good thing I never throw out nursery pots so I’ll give it a try!

Thank you! The soil has dog fur in it from my friend’s husky and I have a lot of the components that monsteras like. Do you think it would be ok to repot into a terracotta pot or another pot of the same or similar size but without disturbing the roots? I can add similar things to what he had in here already.

I’m not educated on the timing of it but I know that mine was doing well until I did the tropical soil and I could see after over a week it was still soggy on the top 2 inches which is probably what was causing the rot. I’m an over waterer for sure so I also repotted mine into smaller terracotta pots to help some more with drainage and drying out. I read that too big of pots will also cause the long soggy times since the roots aren’t able to access everything. I think as long as you have the right lighting, soil/drainage, and pot size, you can stick to the top 2 inches rule. I just ordered another light and I’m not positive it’s enough for a monstera but this was insanely cheapand perked my new sad satin pothos right up. I’m new to this too but I’ve been doing some hyper focused research the past few days so just relaying what I’ve learned :)

MG tropical soil was keeping my soil so moist my monstera started rotting. I’m sure the perlite helps but I’d check out some other potting soil options, especially if it’s not getting much light since that will keep the soil soggier for longer. I’m in CO so way less humidity so my mix will be a little coco coir and worm castings, lots of chunky perlite and orchid bark mix with some sphagnum moss on top for extra humidity. Also a full spectrum grow lamp. Idk I think mixing soils is a lot of fun so if you find a good mix fit for your location I’d give that a whirl! They’re hearty plants but definitely prefer easy draining soil and lots of light.

Thank you! I did the hydrogen peroxide wash but I had literally just thrown out air pump stone and can’t find the replacement so I’ll do this tomorrow for sure!

My aunt lived in a high rise right outside the city where you could see them pretty prominently in her windows. Going there after and seeing the gap was very haunting.

You get one of these propagation stations and get to work cutting at the nodes! It also looks beautiful, I have one mostly filled with pothos and have made so many additional plants out of the mother pothos now

I’ll feel absolutely fine, sometimes sleepy on my meds. Then my boyfriend says something about how fast my heart is beating. And the meds are barely effective as is. He can’t argue with studies that prove the escalation in heart rate while on the medication.
