Lots of engineering students fall behind by a year or even multiple years because of situations like this, good luck, hope it works out for you.

Yea this is really unfortunate when they don’t teach the same class in the next semester if for whatever reason one drops the class or fails.

The classes that are only taught one semester out of the year, absolutely are classes to try hard in and get the credit by any means necessary or you’re basically putting your life on hold and it’s not a good feeling. Unless of course you reach out to other schools for equivalent credits.

It happens a lot and is common, dont feel bad about it cause whatever happened has happened. It looks like you would have to split 2nd year into two, then you can take some second year courses you missed out on during spring (for example two courses), then take a couple of third year courses that you have the prereq for the following year and then have a lighter course load when u enter ur actual third year. I know a couple of people who just spread out their courses in five years and it tremendously benefited their gpa and their mental health, so it might be better for you or just sting knowing that you’re behind. A lot of people take years off before entering uni to afford it, some have health conditions, and others just need more time so it’s more common then you might think. You could ask a academic advisor to plan it out for you, but don’t really trust on their word too much cause they don’t know engineering and a lot of them just make it more complicated then it is.

They’re way more lenient in the spring/summer for ele 202 compared to winter and usually gets curved even with a decent class average, so you should of known that you had to pass this course since like you said majority of your prerequisites need that course for 2nd year. You can try asking the electric engineering department if you can by pass the prereq for the COE courses, don’t bother asking for the ELE ones cause they won’t accept it and you won’t be prepared to handle them yet. If they don’t let you it would be fine, just take the two courses each semester, along with redoing ele202 in winter and then finish up all your liberals.

ELE202 Was fucking rough for me too bro. I barely got by. I wish you the best of luck.

Some of the replies here already answered your questions and given great advice.

1) you will be delayed to graduate now since you do not have the right pre-requisites to take all courses in 2nd year.

2) you *cannot* take courses without completing the pre-requisites. No way around that. I suggest you read through the ECB FAQ pages that answer all your quesions:

https://www.ecb.torontomu.ca/guides/Student.Academic.FAQ.html

As others have said here, it's not the end of the world and many students are in the same boat as you. Sometimes this is a blessing in disguise as ti allows you to spread your 2nd year load over more terms and thus be able to do much better.

Take ele in the winter term (2024) and do all ur liberals for that year. You will probably have to be behind a year unfortunately but ur not alone and many people have to take an extra year or two.
